Case study
SPAR SaveMor across three countries

SPAR SaveMor ran one competition from 25 March to 7 May 2024 in South Africa, Namibia and eSwatini. Spend at least R100, N$100 or E100 in a SaveMor store, photograph the till slip, and send it on WhatsApp. The prize pool was R200,000, split so each country had its own winners.
How the prizes were split
- R170,000in South Africa. 68 winners, R2,500 each, drawn weekly and phoned.
- N$15,000in Namibia. 6 winners, N$2,500 each, drawn at the end.
- E15,000in eSwatini. 6 winners, E2,500 each, drawn at the end.
Why running it in three countries paid off
- Reach. One competition, three markets at once. Sales moved in each country, and SaveMor’s presence across southern Africa got stronger.
- WhatsApp. The same familiar door worked whether the shopper was in South Africa, Namibia or eSwatini. More people entered because the step was obvious.
- Engagement. A meaningful prize brought people into the store more often, and encouraged a bigger shop, which showed up as footfall and sales.
- Less admin. Digital entries replaced a pile of paper in three countries. Validation stayed in one place.
- Data. Contact details and what people bought became the raw material for the next, more relevant promotion.
- Loyalty. A straightforward entry and a real prize, earned while doing a normal shop, left people well disposed to SaveMor.
Simple entry, local currency, and a draw calendar that matched the country. That is how SaveMor boosted sales, kept customers, and left with market data a single-country poster would not have produced.
