What is a till slip campaign?
A till slip campaign is a promotion that uses the shopper’s receipt as proof of purchase. The shopper sends a photo of the slip on WhatsApp or through a QR code. Smartslip.ai reads the store, the date, and the products, then issues a reward or a competition entry when the slip matches the rules. Brands use it to reward a real sale and to see which products people bought.
Why the receipt is the proof
Most FMCG brands sell through a retailer. The brand pays for the advert, but the shopper pays the store. A till slip is the piece of paper that shows the purchase really happened: which store, which day, and which products were on the basket.
A till slip campaign uses that paper as the entry ticket. The shopper buys the product, photographs the slip, and sends the photo. Smartslip.ai reads it and checks it against rules the brand set before the promotion opened. A match can become a competition entry, an instant reward, a loyalty stamp, or a code for the next purchase.
What the shopper actually does
- They buy the products named in the promotion.
- They keep the till slip. A photo of the whole slip is what gets checked.
- They open the campaign on WhatsApp, by scanning a QR code, or on a branded page. There is no app to install.
- They send the photo and get an answer in that same chat or page.
Wellington’s 40-year birthday campaign is a clear example. Shoppers who bought two specified products could send the slip on WhatsApp or with a QR code and enter to win a share of R40,000 in vouchers.
What the brand can attach to a valid slip
The check is the same. The reward on top of it is what the brief asks for.
- A prize draw. The accepted slip becomes one entry.
- An instant reward, such as airtime, data, or a voucher, sent once the slip is accepted.
- A stamp, points, or a step in a challenge, so the next purchase moves the shopper closer to a reward.
- A code for a later purchase, sent after this slip is accepted.
What you agree before anyone enters
The useful campaigns are specific. Name the products and pack sizes. Name the stores, or say that every store counts. Set the dates. Set a minimum spend if you need one. Set how many times one shopper, or one slip, can enter. Put those rules in the terms the shopper sees. Smartslip.ai then checks each photo against that list.
