A till slip is more than proof of payment. For an FMCG brand it is a record of what was bought, how much was spent, and which other products shared the basket, including competitors. Joined to a CRM, that record is how you stop sending the same offer to everyone.

From the slip into the CRM

Targeted notes built from that data have been reported to lift response rates by about 25% compared with a generic message. People answer when the offer matches a purchase they actually made. The phone number still comes from the entry, not from the receipt, and marketing only follows a separate opt-in. What a brand can and cannot collect is covered in what customer data a brand can collect.

Competitions that also collect

A WhatsApp competition is one of the easiest ways to gather the slip. The shopper sends a photo, the entry is checked, and the brand keeps a picture of real baskets rather than a claimed preference. Brands that use that loop well have reported retention up by as much as 15%, because the next message is about something the person bought.

What a personal note looks like

Picture a shopper whose slips keep showing gluten-free products. A WhatsApp note that points them to a new gluten-free line, or a small reward for buying it, lands differently from a national blast about a flavour they do not eat. That is the practical use of the slip: one basket, one relevant follow-up. Accepted slips are read in SmartInsights.
